We're particularly interested in candidates with extensive experience managing complex, high-value retail accounts who can combine strategic thinking with strong commercial negotiation, financial acumen and effective team leadership.

The Opportunity

As Senior National Account Manager, you'll take ownership of the commercial strategy, performance and growth of a portfolio of major national retail accounts, working closely with senior stakeholders to deliver ambitious business objectives.

You'll play a pivotal role in developing Joint Business Plans, leading commercial negotiations and identifying opportunities to improve distribution, product availability, customer engagement and sustainable revenue growth.

This is a high-impact leadership role requiring someone who can balance strategic account development with hands-on commercial delivery, while coaching and developing a high-performing account management team.

Key Responsibilities

You'll play a key role in driving commercial success by:

  • Leading the commercial strategy and performance of major national retail accounts, delivering against sales, revenue, profitability and growth targets.

  • Developing and executing Joint Business Plans aligned with customer priorities, commercial objectives and long-term growth opportunities.

  • Analysing sales, operational and customer performance to identify opportunities, manage risks and drive commercial improvements.

  • Owning account forecasts, investment plans and trade marketing budgets, ensuring effective financial management and return on investment.

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with senior retail stakeholders across Commercial, Operations, Marketing and Digital teams.

  • Identifying opportunities to improve distribution, product availability, customer engagement and retail execution.

  • Leading cross-functional projects, customer trials and transformation initiatives from planning through to implementation.

  • Managing, coaching and developing account management professionals, promoting accountability, commercial judgement and high performance.

  • Collaborating with senior leadership to influence wider retail strategy, commercial priorities and business development opportunities.

  • Ensuring responsible retail practices, regulatory compliance and customer protection standards are embedded into account plans and execution.

About You

You will be an experienced Senior National Account Manager with a strong commercial background, excellent leadership capabilities and a proven track record of managing high-value retail partnerships.

You will also have:

  • Significant experience managing major national retail accounts within complex, high-turnover commercial environments.

  • Proven success delivering commercial growth through Joint Business Planning, strategic negotiations and insight-led account management.

  • Strong experience building and influencing senior customer relationships, including director-level stakeholders.

  • Previous line management experience, with the ability to coach, develop and motivate account management teams.

  • Excellent financial acumen, including forecasting, investment management, budgeting and commercial performance analysis.

  • Experience leading complex cross-functional projects involving multiple stakeholders, budgets and delivery priorities.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to translate commercial insight into actionable strategies.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant commercial reporting tools.

  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationally as required.

Desirable experience includes:

  • Experience managing top-tier UK retailers or similarly complex national customer accounts.

  • Strong understanding of account P&L management, trade marketing and customer investment planning.

  • Knowledge of retail market trends, shopper behaviour, e-commerce and emerging retail technologies.

  • A track record of driving innovation and continuous improvement across commercial accounts and teams.
