An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Cyber Security Specialist to join a leading Defence organisation supporting the delivery of mission-critical systems across the UK Defence sector.
This role offers the opportunity to work on highly secure, complex technologies supporting multi-domain command and control systems used by the Royal Navy and international defence partners.
You’ll play a key role in strengthening product cyber security capability across the engineering lifecycle, helping delivery teams manage cyber risk while contributing to the development of innovative security approaches using automation, AI, and advanced decision-support technologies.
The Role
As a Cyber Security Specialist, you will provide cyber security expertise across secure product and systems engineering activities, supporting both technical delivery and wider cyber capability development.
Working closely with engineering, project, and security teams, you’ll support the assessment and management of cyber risk, contribute to vulnerability management activities, and help improve the automation of security assurance outputs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide cyber security expertise across the full systems engineering lifecycle
- Support cyber risk management activities for mission-critical defence products
- Develop and improve automated cyber security assessment and assurance outputs
- Support vulnerability, patch, and update management processes
- Maintain product cyber security artefacts and technical security documentation
- Contribute to threat modelling and cyber risk assessments using recognised frameworks
- Work with delivery teams to provide timely cyber security guidance and support
- Assist in planning cyber security activities and project task estimation
- Support the continuous improvement of cyber security capability and best practice
- Contribute to the adoption of advanced technologies including automation and AI within cyber security processes
Required Skills & Experience
Essential
- Strong background in Cyber Security, Systems Engineering, or related technical disciplines
- Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security, or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of cyber security risk management principles
- Experience working with cyber and engineering design data
- Understanding of industrial control systems or operational technology environments
- Familiarity with NIST Cyber Security Framework (NIST CSF)
- Experience with threat modelling frameworks such as Mitre ATT&CK, DEF3ND, or EMB3D
- Experience managing vulnerabilities, patching, and security updates
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Desirable
- Knowledge of Secure by Design principles within MOD environments
- Understanding of DEFSTAN 05-138 and DEFSTAN 05-139
- Familiarity with ISA/IEC 62443
- Experience or certifications relating to Operational Technology (OT) or Industrial Control Systems (ICS)
- Interest in automation, AI, and advanced cyber security technologies
